Since 1999, bagpipes and tartan have taken over the streets of New York City every spring, in a parade that celebrates Scottish heritage. Leading the way is the Grand Marshal. Every year, a new Grand Marshal is selected. This year’s selection is Sam Heughan. This Scottish-born actor has risen to fame by playing the heroic James Fraser (James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser, to be exact) in the book series-turned-hit-television-show, Outlander. With the series finale set to begin this spring, we think this is a perfect choice for Grand Marshal and will surely attract new visitors to the already popular event.
